Birth Control Made Easy…
I drive by a billboard a few miles from home occasionally with a smiling woman on it. The tagline is, "birth control made easy". The sponsor is peddling birth control pills, of course. I have a different view of the tagline.
Do you think you were created by the coincidental melding of reproductive ingredients? If you do, then it makes good sense to make birth control easy. You want to be in control as much as you can...to make... or not to make a baby with your mate.
Alternatively, do you think you were created by God through your parents? If that is your position, do you think birth control should be made easy? If you believe God's not dead and He's looking out for your best interests all the time and in every detail, then birth control can be made easy without dangerous pills or synthetic barriers. You can ask God to make birth easy by controlling the event in His time...by trusting that He will be with you every moment of the process...from conception...through fetal development...then birth.
He is with you through it all even if you aren't married...aren't financially stable...are contemplating abortion...are a victim of rape or incest. These difficult consequences surrounding the existence of a developing child in the womb aren't easy. But they are secondary to the existence of a child of God who deserves a chance to LIVE a good life...or a bad one, regardless of the circumstances surrounding conception.
In this election year, I have been astonished at the number of people who assert the ridiculous and unwarranted accusation that women's health and wellness don't matter enough to pro-lifers...that we are potentially complicit in denying a woman the right to life saving health care. The elephant in the room is the unborn baby who will die from the abortion.
I will risk the ire of some by positing an objective truth or two. Men and women are biologically different. Women carry babies inside their bodies if impregnated by men. So if you want birth control to be easy...trust God for His timing for marriage and then after that, for making babies. Men, don't pressure her for sex. Women, don't give in. Know God loves you if you ignore this advice, AND He loves the unborn child just as much.
Another way to make birth control easy is to learn about the female reproductive cycle. If you need to avoid pregnancy for whatever reason, there are methods you can follow that don't include complicated drug therapy like birth control pills or inserting foreign bodies into your body or under the skin.
It was God's idea to create men and women with generative reproductive organs that give us pleasure. It was His idea to create marriage as the means by which we would procreate and thereby sustain humanity...His creative jewels. When we erase or ignore the procreative aspect from the sexual act, we must follow the logic...if sexual activity is ok without an openness to life, then anything goes.
I have included a podcast link to a detailed explanation about contraception and chastity here from a published text by Elizabeth Anscombe "who was a prominent 20th-century British philosopher, known for her influential work in ethics and her deep commitment to Catholic doctrine. In her essay ‘Contraception and Chastity’—one of the earliest defenses of Pope Paul VI’s encyclical, Humanae Vitae—Anscombe expertly explains the evil of contraception and contrasts its use with that of methods of natural family planning." - James T. Majewski

What’s the Problem?
I resigned from my job last September. My primary reason is best understood with some explanation. I started roasting coffee professionally in 2006 as a supplemental career...evenings and weekends. In 2016, we decided to expand our focus from roasting some of the finest coffees in the world and educating the curious coffee lover about better coffee brewing to support pro-life initiatives. We wanted to continue to roast and educate customers but donate all our profits to local and national pro-life ministries. Last year, we totaled our donations and realized we hadn't made as big of an impact on the abortion industry as we wanted to! I resigned my primary job to invest more gray matter in growing the business. I needed the space to pray, plan and, frankly, to work through some of my personal shortcomings as they pertain to stewardship and business growth. We decided to invest some of our savings and some money from a generous person for 6-9 months in an effort to sell more coffee and save more babies.
I began with developing two to three weekly social media posts on Facebook, TikTok, Instagram and YouTube. We hired a marketing professional to target like-minded, pro-life coffee drinkers. And we continue to provide coffee for our new and long-term loyal customers. Folks can sign up for subscription coffee and receive our latest coffee news at our email link. We have loads of curious people visiting the CoffeeBabees website, but they don't buy the coffee. We need help. Our sales are profoundly dismal.
Here is an example: You are on a tight schedule and this morning you have to drive through a national chain coffee shop for your brew on the way to work. You might ignore the truth you know about the business, and the potential mountain of financial donations they send to pro-choice organizations because of convenience and routine. I get it. I certainly don't make qualified judgements on every item I purchase.
One of the opportunities for pro-lifers is to offer ultrasounds so a mother and father can see the child growing. Most often, an undecided mother will decide to carry the child to full term if they see the baby first. Our challenge is similar in that, we can't show you the babies whose lives are saved when you choose to buy pro-life coffee. Routines and convenience naturally take precedence. We are asking you to make a minor shift.
Slow down on the weekend to enjoy pro-life coffee. Share it with family and friends on special occasions and holidays. You will be helping us grow our small, veteran-owned business and save babies' lives.
What if you're a "pro-lifer" and a "coffee-hater"? We have a donation page on the website and we are thankful to have your coffee-hating help.
Are we naive to think there aren't enough pro-life coffee lovers to support us?
Do you think our coffee won't be as good as some of the other roasters who focus on coffee alone? We are eager to prove otherwise.
Do you have any ideas for us? Some of our competitors recommend we keep our pro-life stance to ourselves and just roast coffee. We aren't going to consider that. We are going to continue to focus...on saving babies AND roasting great coffee.
A Pro-Life Rant
Your life isn’t an accident. God knew you’d be here…
My Life isn’t the result of an accident. God knew I would be here. He has always known it. He created me from biological components which He placed within my mother and father…and we can follow that in a backward trajectory to their parents…and backwards it goes. Because I believe this, I am thankful that my mother chose to carry me in her womb until I was born. With that in mind, I can say that every breath I take is a gift. I didn’t do anything to merit the gift. Every time a child is conceived, God is the “first mover” in the event. His desire is that every parent will love their child by offering that child the gift of life. Ok? Let’s say you want to buy a pair of suspenders for me because you know that I was a plumber for many years, and you discovered two suspender stores, both filled with every imaginable design. One of the stores is conveniently in your area so you logically choose it. But when you walk up to the glass entry door, you see a fundraiser poster to raise money for a charity called Britches for Poor Plumbers. The sly and devious plan is to buy over-sized Carhartt work pants for them and then solve the inevitable consequence of them looking like fools with their pants on the ground, then selling them stylish suspenders. You might then choose to drive the extra few miles to the other suspenders store because you don’t know, nor have you heard of any poor plumbers. I will get to my point. If you love tasty, thoughtfully-sourced, freshly roasted coffee and you share my views that life is a gift, from conception all the way to a natural death, why not spend your money on coffee that may not be around the convenient corner on your drive to work. Try coffeebabees.com (with four e’s in the spelling). We have delicious single-origin coffees you are sure to love. If you run out of coffee you like from us, try these other pro-life coffee roasters-seven weeks coffee, lifeboat coffee, north arrow coffee, and the holy roast. You can’t always buy products that support the things that are important to you. If you feel that way too, and you could share some of your finances to save unborn lives that are at risk, why wouldn't you? With your support, we can save more babies! I already have some suspenders, by the way.
